Title: Strategy for Life-oriented Earthquake Disaster Recovery: A Baton from Tohoku to Kumamoto

Abstract:
Since 2012, Dr. Cho has been the director of the clinic in the largest makeshift houses built after the Great Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. He has also been committed to the recovery in Toshoku as the head of the center for local comprehensive care of Ishinomaki region. Dr. Cho has supported the disaster recovery in the aftermath of Kumamoto earthquakes in April 2016 and offered advices to enhance comprehensive local care. This seminar will present strategy for life-oriented earthquake disaster recovery developed for the past six years since the Great Tohoku earthquake and tsunami and examine the disaster recovery in Kumamoto from the perspective of the strategy. It will also talk about lessons learned from Dr. Toshikazu Wakatsuki, father of rural medicine, support experiences in Great Hanshin earthquake and the experiences of community medicine and comprehensive care in medical depopulated area in Nagano Prefecture.
