Title: Importance and necessity of international standardization

Abstract:
When each country sets different units in quantity, length, weight and standards in various systems, there arise many inconveniences and troubles. Therefore, internationally unified standardization has been promoted in various fields such as quantity and unit, screw, gear, surgical instrument, food, clinical test, forensic medicine, biotechnology, and information technology. The standardization requires us to draft boring and abstruse documents that specify standards and requirements. I will present a case in which Japan suffered disadvantages due to its neglect of international standardization as well as the one in which a small company made a huge profit by drawing up the international standardization document that utilizes its own patent. I will also talk about the standardization of the method to identify the causative bacteria of food poisoning by genome analysis, which I get involved with.
