Title:  R&D and importance of functional foods in the total health care   – Innovation of novel functional food ”Equelle” supporting the women’s medical care –

Abstract:

In recent years, total health care of an individual is given importance in medical field and thus, there is an increasing focus on the functional foods as supporting agents for the medical care by pharmaceutical agents. In Japan, there are three different labeling systems for Foods with Health Claims i.e. Foods with Specific Health Uses, Foods with Nutrient Function Claims and Foods with Function Claims. In this lecture, I will discuss about the importance of functional foods in total health care and present status of research and developments. In addition, I will also introduce about the history of discovery and development, and clinical trials of a novel functional food “Equelle” that was developed to support unmet medical needs in women’s healthcare.
