Title:   Sustainability of Local Economy and Society

Abstract:

The main theme of this seminar is “sustainability of local economy and society: decrease in population, aging and declining birthrate” by introducing the case of Kumamoto economy. An analysis provided in the lecture is based on macroeconomic approach and local economic analysis approach. The data of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which indicates a size of economy is used in macroeconomic approach, while classification of four capitals, i.e., economic capital, social capital, cultural capital and natural capital, is employed in local economic analysis approach. Lastly, this lecture examines some problems for improvement in Kumamoto Prefecture.
