Abstract:
In 2017, The Economist published an article entitled “The world’s most valuable resource is no longer oil, but data”. Data utilization in healthcare still lags behind other sectors, however hundreds of start-up companies are created for data analysis technology in the healthcare field. Data science is also playing a central role in development of therapeutic agents in pharmaceutical companies and there is high demand for data scientists as they can play an active role in various processes of drug development. In Japan, it is often said that there is a gap between educational settings and corporate needs of researchers. In this lecture, I will focus on the utilization of big data all over the world and outline the functions required from the viewpoint of our research strategy and data analysis. I will also talk about the intensity of global talent acquisition and future expectations.
