Abstract:

For more than 30 years since its establishment, the JR Kyushu Group has been improving convenience in the railroad business and promoting the attractiveness of the region through the operation of D&S (Design & Story) trains. In addition, the group has taken on the challenge of diversifying its business and expanding its operations outside of Kyushu. However, due to the effects of COVID-19, the company’s revenue dropped by half in FY2020 compared to the previous year, thus facing the most important crisis since its establishment.

Even under such circumstances, the Group has set a vision for 2030: “To contribute to the sustainable development of Kyushu through urban development that takes advantage of local characteristics, with an emphasis on safe and secure mobility services.” In this seminar, I would like to talk about our group’s efforts on “urban development,” which is a pillar of this vision, with a focus on the new Kumamoto Station Building that opened this spring.
