When does the HIGO Selective Exam take place?
Conducted on the same day of Graduate School Entrance Exam: Once for Medical Sciences, and Twice for Pharmaceutical Sciences as of FY 2015.

If failed in HIGO Selective Exam, Can I try again?
You can. If there still remains room after HIGO Selective Exam conducted in April, another Selective Exam would be announced.
Can every HIGO Student get Scholarship?
20 selected students are eligible to receive HIGO scholarship. Eligibility can be extended to the following fiscal year if qualified by assessment. HIGO scholarship will not be offered to the students who are receiving other grant(s). Please make sure the amount of scholarship might change due to budget conditions. The nation supports the Program until FY 2018, which might not ensure HIGO Scholarship after April, FY 2019.
If I am receiving other kind of grant, do I have to give it up when qualified for HIGO Scholarship? Can I get the grant again when I lose HIGO Scholarship?
You need to decline the grant once you are qualified for HIGO Scholarship, and can apply for the grant or other kind of stipends when HIGO Scholarship ceases to be provided.
While receiving Scholarship, can I apply for admission fee exemption/moratorium, and/or tuition fee exemption?
Can a HIGO Scholarship recipient be eligible for KDS or KWS?
KDS (Kumamoto University Doctoral Course Scholarship Program) and KWS (Kumamoto University Ph.D. Work-Scholarship) are not applicable for HIGO Scholarship recipients. If you are already supported by KDS or KWS, the service should be stopped once qualified for HIGO Scholarship.
Is paid-job permitted?
All the HIGO Scholarship recipients are not allowed to earn money by doing any kind of job. If you are already working, you should retreat from the job by the month preceding Scholarship commencement.
Can a HIGO Student apply for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship?
Can. Although you have to give up HIGO Scholarship, your place at HIGO Program can be secured.
What’s the difference between HIGO Student and Associate Student?
A HIGO Student is the one who passed HIGO Elective Exam and follow HIGO Program curriculum. Annual Scholarship quota is 20. Non-recipients can get stipends such as Research Fellowship for Young Scientists (DC), or be paid from part-time jobs. TA or RA can also be an option, if successfully employed.
The Program supports HIGO Students with costs of participation/travel for conferences home and abroad, English proofreading, as well as paper publishing.
A HIGO Associate Student is obliged to take more than 2 credits in 1 year, with subjects selected from; Principles of Social and Cultural Sciences, Governmental/Business Seminar series, Internships, Public Policy, Technology and Organizational Management, Cross-cultural Communication. A candidate should be through the application and assessment procedures. The qualified can apply for TA/RA.
Participation/travel fee for conferences (domestic only), English proofreading charge, as well as paper publishing cost will be covered by HIGO Program.
