Abstract：

 Pluripotency is specified and maintained by cell-specific transcription factors, yet how such transcription factors operate remains incompletely understood. Here I discuss our work, focussing on the transcription factor NANOG and on embryonic stem cells and cells of the early germline. Our goal is to understand how transcription factors co-operate with partner proteins to modify transcription and regulate cell phenotype.
