In June 2002, when he was a graduate student at Tokyo University, Yukihiro Maru started Leave a Nest Co., ltd. with science graduate students. He is a pioneer who put school visit lectures and workshops of cutting-edge science into business for the first time in Japan. Currently, he is doing “knowledge-creation business” that seeks to produce sources for new businesses by combining corporate resources and technologies that remain un-exploited in universities and local communities. Also through “knowledge platform” – infrastructure that gathers knowledge from around the globe, he is working on more than 200 projects.

Maru is also a business innovator engaged in many startup companies such as euglena Co., Ltd. that was listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December 2014, Ory Laboratory Co., Lid. producing robots to resolve solitude, Genequest Co., Ltd. that is the first Japanese company doing large scale genetic screening business, Challenergy Inc. developing next-generation wind power generator, Metagen, Inc. – gut microbiota venture company – to name but a few.
