Title: How can we create research environment to help anybody regardless of gender succeed in research?

Date&Time: 14 Jul.(Thu.) 2016, 13:15-14:45
Venue: Lecture room1 (3F), Medical Education & Library Building

Abstract:

As the Japanese government proposed “The Project to Realize a Society in Which All Citizens are Dynamically Engaged”, it has been expected that the role of female scientists would be enhanced. However, in reality, there are many barriers blocking female researchers from playing the active roles. “My application for a nursery did not make it. Down with Japan!” This is an outcry by a mother who failed to get offer for a nursery. But this problem should be taken as our own. Male researchers would not be able to succeed in research environment that impedes the success of female researchers. Unless we create environment that helps any talented researcher beyond gender differences to engage and develop research, Japan cannot lead the research on the global scale.

In this seminar, referring to other countries’ environments surrounding female researchers, we will explore how we should promote research environment wherein anybody can make full use of his/her talent.
