Abstract:

Since the Great Hanshin Earthquake, Japan’s disaster medical system has greatly developed, but in order to respond to natural disasters such as heavy rainfall disasters and earthquakes, training of multidisciplinary medical personnel is necessary.

In October 2018, the Disaster Medical Education and Research Center was newly established at Kumamoto University Hospital, and full-time staffs were assigned to promote education and research on disaster medicine.

The main mission of this center is “Training of advanced medical personnel to support disasters in multidisciplinary collaboration” which was adopted under the “Problem-solving advanced medical human resources development program” by MEXT.  We aim to train multidisciplinary medical personnel who can work for a long-term perspective from the hyper acute phase to the chronic phase. In this seminar, I will provide an overview about our efforts to train human resources for disaster medicine and also talk about our activities during disasters.
