Abstract:

Currently, universities such as Harvard and Stanford play a role as institutes that develop human resources and start up venture companies rather than just pursuing academic goals. Ideally, startup companies should have a team consisting of investors and strategic partners who provide technical and marketing support that assists their research. However, early-stage startup companies that have not yet achieved any advances encounter difficulty when pursuing contracts with strategic partners for basic research. It is even more difficult for them to find investors. Doing so typically requires a person who can make compelling presentations in a charismatic and somewhat overconfident manner. Because the current circumstances do not allow these companies to rely on funding for research and business operations from the national government, Kumamoto University is expected, in the near future, to develop a system that enables research laboratories to run a number of startup companies with support from the university.
