Abstract:

What is beauty? The researchers of the Shiseido Global Innovation Center in Japan are engaged in research to explore various approaches to creating “beauty”, with the goal of supporting the physical and mental health of society in addition to developing cosmetic products to realize social well-being

In this seminar, I would like to introduce our company and some dermatological studies in which I myself have been involved to identify possible approaches that go beyond cosmetic beauty now that the idea of beauty has become more diverse. In particular, I will share with participants my career path after joining the company, including my experiences developing cosmetics, performing basic research, studying as an Ph.D student and researching abroad as a post-doctoral fellow. In doing so, I will illustrate two key attitudes required for corporate researchers: a focus on the lifestyle of consumer and the earnest pursuit of science. I hope this seminar will help participants who wish to become corporate or academic researchers design their career.
