Abstract:
As Head of the Gender Equality Bureau of the General Administrative Agency of the Cabinet, I was dedicated to establishing the 1999 Basic Law for a Gender-Equal Society (the “Basic Law”). Following this, I served as the Director of the Gender Equality Bureau of the Cabinet Office. I am now currently working as the President of Business and Professional Women (BPW), a certified non-profit organization, as well as Chairperson of the board Japan College of Social Work, and with other organizations that promote gender equality. The United Nations has set gender equality as the fifth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, and in Japan, the Act on Promotion of Women’s Participation and Advancement in the Workplace was enacted based on the Basic Law.
During this session, I would like to discuss the significance of achieving gender equality and how gender equality can be accomplished.
