Abstract:
In 1992, I became a doctor and spent 9 years as a clinician in Japan. From 1997 to March 2001 just before I left for the USA, I had engaged in medical care as a family doctor in mountain area in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Unexpectedly, in April 2001, I started my academic career at Stanford University in Silicon Valley. In my academic record in Japan, I had never presented at academic conference. Besides, I could not speak English well. Such a person strayed into Stanford University located into Silicon Valley – one of the leading-edge area in the world – to start a new research career. In this lecture, I will present how I have survived in academia to young students.
