Abstract:
Kumamoto City Hospital, which lost most of its functionality due to the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, relocated and opened a new hospital in Higashimachi on October 1, 2019. Since this time, it has consistently provided medical care, acting as a local base hospital responsible for acute medical care in the area mainly encompassing the eastern part of Kumamoto city and Kamimashiki. Since February 2020, soon after the opening of the new hospital, Kumamoto City Hospital has faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the sole designated medical institution in Kumamoto city specializing in infectious disease, the hospital has admitted over 1,000 patients with COVID-19 during the pandemic. In this seminar, I would like to talk about the current status of Kumamoto City Hospital, including its vision, role in the community, management policies and strategies, and COVID-19 infection control measures.
