Utilizing the know-how of the HIGO Program

A new form of graduate education

In 2012 the HIGO Program (Program for Leading Graduate Schools, Health life science: Interdisciplinary and Glocal Oriented) was launched, receiving funding from MEXT for seven years. It aimed to foster future leaders who could also solve social issues and in 2018 received the highest rating of S in its final evaluation. Since 2019, the HIGO Program has been working on utilizing the know-how of the program and ways in which to use it to create a new form of graduate education, one which uses the expertise of the HIGO Program in developing multifaceted doctoral students.
In 2021 the HIGO Program’s distinctive courses began to be offered university-wide,
with two new doctoral programs being started.

Leadership training, business seminars, governmental seminars, and governmental internship programs are offered to graduate students from across the university.

Recruitment of students for 2022

This fellowship program aims to develop highly skilled doctoral students in the field of health and life sciences who will be active in universities, research institutes, corporations, government agencies, and medical institutions, and to help them realize diverse career paths.

This doctoral program aims to give doctoral students various competencies in addition to their own specialty, as well as a bird’s eye view of issues with which they can solve global problems by integrating different fields and working with various sectors.

Through the distinctive courses offered by the HIGO Program, as well as the courses offered by the two doctoral programs (S-HIGO and Well-Being), students can identify the knowledge and skills (learning objectives) they will need in the future, as well as the generic skills that are required by society.
