Abstract:
After completing the , I joined a private company for no other reason than the conditions created by the bubble economy. This company gave me the opportunity to conduct research on blood stem cells and molecular biology, which was completely out of my area of expertise, developed as a visiting scientist that I discovered the joy of research.
Thereafter, I was engaged in basic research on biopharmaceuticals at this company, but I faced the dilemma of the decreasing likelihood of commercializing research outputs. After I was transferred to its business development section and experienced many failures, I was involved in proposing and implementing the merger and acquisition of a large American medical device company and establishing a Japanese subsidiary of the company. Through these experiences, I entered the world of business.
In this seminar, I would like to help graduate students who wish to become biologists consider their future career paths by talking about my experiences, including topics from my major scientific papers, my current job, and medical devices that I have been involved with in my career.
