Abstract:
Mr. Keigo joined Sony Kokubu Semiconductor Corporation in 1986. At that time, the Japanese semiconductor industry enjoyed a period of prosperity related to their focus on dynamic random access memory (DRAM) for computers. However, at present, the global hub for manufacturing semiconductors has shifted to Taiwan and South Korea. Mr. Keigo will share the history of the Japanese semiconductor industry through his experience working in the image sensor division of Sony. In addition, the world is about to undergo major transformations triggered by technologies such as the Internet of Things, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and electric vehicles. In this context, the role and applications of semiconductors are also about to undergo major changes. Mr. Keigo will introduce Society 5.0, which is a target of the Cabinet Office of Japan, and discuss the role of image sensors in that Society. He will also discuss the sensor technologies his team is currently developing for use in next-generation applications.
